It is finally time to begin applying to colleges!

We've actually gotten a LOT of work done in the past few weeks. Plus, the school year has started and your SENIOR YEAR is finally here!

All your deadlines are here in one place.

This new calendar only includes the dates for Auburn, Mississippi State, and Cornell. You can print this calendar and hang it on a bulletin board or your fridge to keep yourself accountable.

Assignment 2: Look over your other documents

Download the files by clicking on each link below.

For your Auburn application, we'll be including the college resume and a one-pager attached below. For the one-pager, I have provided you with the content I developed in a Word document, which also includes content I developed for your portfolio that you will need for Mississippi State. For the one-pager, you can choose from the version I developed myself on Canva, or you can use the one AI developed. I have also linked the original Canva link for you here for you to edit as you wish: https://canva.link/fjtf54j5c2h0urd

Most importantly, I have attached your copy/paste document for you to use to complete the Activities and Honors/Awards sections of the Common App. This is the final version. Do not use the printed version I gave you at my house. Use the one linked below.

Refining Your College List

Now it's time to narrow down your college list.

This document contains schools that I feel would be a best fit based on all the work we've done together so far. Remember, these are just suggestions. Feel free to cut or add schools. The only suggestion I will make is that I always advise students to apply to five schools.

Version 1.o - A2 Achieve Gap Analysis

Your personalized A2 Achieve Gap Analysis

Based on everything we have worked through together so far, I created this personalized A2 Achieve Gap Analysis for you. A gap analysis does not mean you have done anything wrong or that you are not a strong applicant. It is simply an objective look at the strengths you already have, the areas where your applications could become even stronger, and any information or opportunities we may not want to overlook. I have also included clear, manageable action steps so you know exactly how to address each area and continue building a competitive college and scholarship profile.

Our Resume Process

1. Get Your Experience Out of Your Head and Onto Paper

If you already have a resume, great. Send it.
If not, that’s completely normal.

We’ll start with a student-friendly resume questionnaire designed to help you capture:

  • School activities
  • Jobs, babysitting, and volunteer work
  • Clubs, sports, leadership, and service
  • Skills, interests, and responsibilities

You don’t need perfect wording, just honest details. We’ll handle the structure and polish.

2. Kickoff Conversation

We’ll meet briefly (in person, Zoom, or phone) to talk through:

  • What you’re using this resume for (college, scholarships, jobs, internships, summer programs)
  • What you enjoy, what you’re proud of, and what you’re unsure about
  • Any experiences you’re not sure “count” (spoiler: many of them do)

This is a low-pressure conversation designed to get clarity, not to test you.

3. Build Your Working Resume (Your Master Copy)

Using your questionnaire and our conversation, we’ll create your Working Resume.

This is not a one-page document.
It’s a master record of everything you’ve done so far:

  • Activities and roles
  • Responsibilities and skills
  • Awards, service, and leadership

Think of it as your career and college archive. This document will grow with you through high school, college, and beyond.

4. Student Review & Fill-In

You’ll review the Working Resume and:

  • Correct anything that doesn’t sound right
  • Add missing details
  • Clarify responsibilities in your own words

This step matters. The resume should sound like you—not an adult speaking for you.

5. Lock in the Working Resume

Once your edits are complete, we’ll finalize your Working Resume and return it to you for your personal records.

You’ll keep this version and update it over time as you:

  • Add new activities
  • Take on leadership roles
  • Gain work or volunteer experience

This becomes your long-term foundation.

6. Create Your Targeted Resume

Next, we’ll use your Working Resume to create a targeted resume based on what you need right now, such as:

  • College or scholarship applications
  • Part-time jobs
  • Internships or summer programs

This version is shorter, focused, and customized for its purpose, without reinventing the wheel.

7. Review & Feedback

You’ll review the targeted resume and share:

  • Any wording that doesn’t feel natural
  • Small edits or clarifications
  • Questions about how things are phrased

This is collaborative, not one-and-done.

8. Final Delivery & How to Use It

After final proofing, you’ll receive your resume in:

  • Word format (easy to edit later)
  • PDF format (ready to submit)

We’ll also explain:

  • When to use each version
  • How to update it on your own
  • How this resume connects to future college, internship, and job applications

The Big Picture

This process isn’t just about creating a resume.
It’s about helping students:

  • Recognize their experience
  • Learn how to talk about themselves professionally
  • Build confidence for what comes next

Your resume becomes a tool, not a stress point.
